A native of Key West, Yates developed her vision in a place
where shapes and materials are ever in flux -- the tidal markings
on a wooden pier, the roots of a banyan tree shattering the
pavement, or wood losing its paint to the relentless and bleaching
sub-tropical sun. In her world, color makes its presence year-round,
altered by the subtleties of weather, the season and the time
of day.
