In the tradition of Robert Smithson, Michael Heizer and Walter
deMaria, Ann Lorraine Labriola has been creating monumental
earthworks for over 30 years. Her “Stargazer”
(1992) is the largest sculpted reef in the world and sits
five miles off the coast of Key West. “Flaming Water
Sculpture” (1985) was a special performance at sea consisting
of 14 flaming pyramids set in the position of the constellation
Aldebaren. She sees the site as vital to her work, which she
describes as a kind of contemporary archaeology. Labriola
lives in Key West, Florida.
