Inspired by childhood memories, nature and dreams, Jeff
Downing’s work seeks to invoke feelings concerning the
human condition and our varied relationship to the natural
world. He writes, “For as long as we have co-existed
with dogs, they have provided us with a close and mysterious
link to nature”. His work represents a movement of freestanding,
large-scale ceramic work and is part of a great tradition
of Californian ceramics. Downing teaches sculpture at San
Francisco State University.
